What Causes Happiness? There Really is No Mystery to It.
Do you know what causes happiness?
Surely, you can come up with a list of things that make people happy.
I must confess. When I was going through a rough patch, I could spot a happy person a mile away. Happy people are pretty obvious.
One, they seem to smile a lot. Two, they're so nice. And three, they're very relaxed. Sometimes, they even have a glow about them. You know they're happy people. And I hated them. Well, not really. I just wanted to be like them. A happy person, too. So I asked myself, what is it about them?
What causes happiness? When I was down in the dumps, you know what I did? I went shopping. I ran up a credit card bill for what I thought were things that make people happy.
I also went out more. Sought the company of friends and loved ones. And for a while, they cheered me up. But when they were gone or had something else to do, I went back to being miserable. Looking back now, I feel a little ashamed. I must have been difficult to live with. The problem was I was turning to everyone and everything else to make me happy. All except me. I was the one person I could have turned to. Why not? I was the person I saw when I woke up every morning and the last before I went to bed every night. But it didn't even cross my mind. I suppose, it was because I didn't like what I saw. I couldn't help but turn away. It was only when I took a long, hard look at myself that things started to change. It's true what they say--what causes happiness in a person is himself. I can't resist sharing these happy sayings.

So what causes happiness? I stood in front of the mirror, stared deep into my eyes, and asked myself the following questions.1. Do I love myself? A happy person accepts himself unconditionally. He doesn't try to be who he's not. These happy sayings explain it better.

2. Do I care for other people? A happy person is kind, generous and compassionate.

3. Do I have a purpose and a passion in life? A happy person makes use of his talents. I find these truly motivational phrases.

4. Do I feel grateful for my life and everything I have? A happy person doesn't take things for granted.

5. Can I try to have a positive attitude? A happy person tries to see the good in everything, even if it's not so obvious to begin with.

6. Do I believe in having hope? A happy person has faith that all things will turn out for the best. These motivational phrases are uplifting.

Simple enough questions, but I didn't have quick answers. Still, I kept on asking them. Then one day, I realized that the answer to all of them was "yes." After much soul searching, I discovered that deep down underneath my unhappy circumstances were the makings of a truly happy person. So what causes happiness? The answer is "you." I urge you to look in the mirror, stare into your eyes and ask yourself these questions. I bet you already are.
