By now, I think we can all agree. Given the choice, we'd like to have a more positive mental attitude.We could take the usual advice and "think positive." But is it as easy as giving our minds the command? Maybe. In any case, daily positive affirmations and positive phrases can assist us.

But if you're like me, you might have allowed people, circumstances and events to condition your mind to think negatively. You might have developed a negative thinking habit. If so, sometimes a simple order to our brain just doesn't work. At least not instantly. We have to untrain our mind from our negative thinking. And ease it into the positive. How do we do this? By consciously and deliberately thinking one good thought after another. Perhaps these positive thinking quotes and inspirational phrases can convince you.

We must plant positive thought seeds in order to produce positive fruit.

But what if like me, you find yourself stuck in stubborn negative thought patterns.You know your life depends on changing these patterns. So you force yourself to think positive. Except that it's a struggle. And trying to shift your negative thoughts becomes more like wrestling with an imaginary gorilla. What do you do then? You need a non-resistant, non-violent way to convert your mindset. You need to prepare the soil first before you plant the seeds. I did this by slipping daily positive affirmations and positive thinking quotes into my regular routine. I wrote a few down on a card and carried it around with me in my pocket.

I recited the positive words with as much feeling as I could muster. Even if I didn't believe any of it. And it worked. Slowly but surely. I realized later on that these inspirational thoughts prepared the soil--the soil of my unconscious mind. Even if my rational mind was sceptical, my subconscious mind was gently being cultivated. And as my subconscious mind became more receptive to the positive thoughts, they gradually began to pop up in my consciousness. Then I began to believe.

What sort of affirmations should you have?
Well, what kind of person do you want to be?
If you want to be a happy and positive person, say, "I am a happy and positive person."
I'm sure you can make up a few of your own.
The key is to declare your affirmations in the present tense, as though you are already who you want to be. Even if the reality seems light years away.
And don't forget--say them with feeling.

Read them. Recite them. Write them down. Over and over.
I can't stress enough that the deeper the emotion you can summon, the more effective they will be.
And as you keep repeating the positive phrases, they gather power over time.
Until one day, you'll find yourself already there.
You're no longer the person who thinks negatively. In fact, you'll avoid people who do.
And when that happens, you'll realize that your world has changed. And that you made it change.
