Surely it can't be that simple.

I'd be the last person to say that it was. Thinking happy thoughts won't automatically take our troubles away. But I'll tell you what. When I thought about something happy, my mood in that moment changed instantly. I discovered that in the depths of my despair, faced with huge worries, a happy thought was a good starting point.

I know, I know. It isn't as easy as it sounds, especially if one has huge problems. It wasn't easy for me either.

But I also know that it is so convenient to get caught up in the negative. It can feel weirdly comforting to wallow in self-pity or take our blessings for granted. Lucky for me, I reached a point where I got fed up. And just as I learned to think negative, I taught myself to think positive.

It was difficult at first, but the more I filled my mind with good thoughts, recited a few happiness quotes, the easier it became.

I realized that as long I was thinking more positive thoughts than negative ones, I was moving in the right direction.

A quick tip from me: whenever I feel my mood turning sour, I find that turning to happiness quotes or inspirational sayings gives me the little boosts I need to carry me through the day.

I followed one happy thought with another and then another. Until one day, I suddenly found that I was there. As a result, I began to see possibilities. Ideas and opportunities that never occurred to me before. They in turn led me to take action and then ultimately to change.
