A Poem About LifeHandwriting On The WallBy Olajubu A. Michael
As the going gets rosy
The crack of dawn emits rays of tranquility
Venerating our ever anticipated rainbow of bliss.
Our spirits come alive to stay alive
Wishing this moment never fades away.
But forgotten are those that drowned trying
Not tough enough to get going
Those we gazed upon; saw their glumness
Imbuing us to soar and overcome our itching twinges.
We stop and stir at life
Laughing or sobbing at past petite imbroglio;
This routine we nourish for a lifetime
And adjust to live a life called ‘normal’
Realizing not that normal a life is merely overrated.
On and on the human race goes
With all pining to be fêted first;
A momentary altitude only meant for those
Stanch and plucky while doing the first things first.
Dead are beings in their dozens to the consciousness of life’s duality
Likened to a coin with twin sides;
Expensive enough to be spent just once.
Many are the handwriting on the wall
With eyes opened, we see them not
Thus, mislaying decisive steps needed to forge ahead.
Our obsessions and imaginations give us away
Enchaining us to depression and dismay
Sometimes, making us barmy and bedridden
A customary indication of being hag ridden.
People are living to die
No one is dying to live
Perhaps, we would know better
The veiled disparity between believing and deceiving one another
And which to clasp every second of every day after another
With each breath escaping from the cordons of our nostrils.
