Hello,
Dragging Your Heels? In The Journey Called Life, Don't Be an Accidental Tourist.

2. Inspirational Thought:
I recently came back from a trip.
Though I don't do it often, I have to confess, I love traveling.
What do I like about traveling?
I get a buzz out of seeing new places, meeting different people and learning about exciting cultures. I adore sampling strange food, listening to unfamiliar music or just sitting down and soaking up the exotic atmosphere.
Traveling is an adventure. And I recommend that if you ever get a chance to travel, do it. It makes for a richer life.
But even if you don't book a flight or boat to some foreign land, we are still travelers in this journey we call life.
Life is a journey. It's a cliche, I know. Bear with me.
Here's a thought:
If people say that life is a journey, what type of traveler are you?
==========
It just so happened that a week after I came home, the rerun of the old movie, The Accidental Tourist, was showing on late night tv.
In case you haven't seen the film, it's a story about a middle aged man, Macon Leary, played by William Hurt.
Leary is a travel writer who writes guide books under the title, The Accidental Tourist.
The first irony is, he actually hates traveling.
So he writes these guide books for businessmen who don't like to travel but are forced to for work. He shows them how they can minimize the discomfort and inconvenience being in a foreign country presents. He gives tips to help his readers function as if they never left home.
The second irony is that while he urges his readers to cling to the safe and familiar, his life is hanging by a thread.
The tragic death of his son causes him to withdraw from the world, which eventually leads to the breakdown of his marriage. And he isn't dealing with grief, his loss very well.
His life has changed.
His life has clearly moved on while he has not. And he refuses to shift with it.
That is until he meets a woman who is his complete opposite. Eccentric, impulsive and irritating at first, she forces him to come out of his comfort zone. A breath of strange air, she was just what he needed. And he was able to relax, open up and ultimately change.
3. Inspirational Tip:
Don't be an accidental tourist in life.
When things happen to us, good and bad, they're sending us a message.
They're saying that what has worked before, will not work now. It's time to replace, adapt or change.
They're signals telling us to move. Start the engine again and follow the new signs. And if we refuse to go where it leads, we are refusing to grow. How will we know if something better is waiting for us at the end?
What type of traveler you are will determine your ultimate destination.
Remember: If life is pulling you in a different direction, don't drag your heels.
